Week 10
Handling over the craft design and closing
After finalising the design, we sent it over to the hospital and then will follow up with the vendor.
Finding the vendors for this die cut craft was not easy at all. We contacted a few but they said they don’t have this service, so we needed to ask around or got advice from the lecturer. Designing the craft was a challenge for us. We learnt a lot along the way especially the skill of using vector and Adobe Illustrator because we usually use Procreate, a drawing app.

Our last day was August 8, our supervisors invited us to lunch and came down to the hospital to sign on the collaboration mural. We had prepared a little gift for all of our project team. We printed out the mural design, sticker of the characters and a handmade keychain which was sewn by us. We wanted to give them the present as the thank you and appreciation of having us an the intern
We were so surprised when they also prepared a certification for us and a little gift for us. We were given the certificate from the director of QSRM department and then we took picture with all the mural project team and the director of DDII. I think it was our honour to have them join us and take pictures with us
The people who made this project happened
What I like the most about this internship apart from having our paintings at a public area is the people and the working environment. I am very grateful when having our supervisors and the team like them. They took care of us even though we’re just intern. They always give us the opportunity to learn. We met all great people who always willing to help us when we needed help. I guess in the real scenario of having a job, I pretty sure that it doesn’t happen all the time.
REFLECTION
It was strange and interesting how we practice art but not in an art space but in a hospital. This internship is not just a project but a meaningful and memorable experience for me as a young artist. We get to bring our own design to the general audience and bring the joy the people their and I think that’s something we don’t usually get as a young artist. We enjoyed the journey from planning to painting and finishing it up.
In my opinion, we have done a good job, but there is still room for improvement. We got to practice our presentation and proposal writing skill. Only until now that I know about how to propose or pitch an idea to an external organisation outside school. The process of getting approval from a big organisation is not a simple thing either therefore we need to be well-prepared of what we want to do. Communication skill is definitely an important skill in a workplace because with the difference of the field that we’re in (art and corporate).
