Week 5
Mural painting
We moved to the second mural in week 5. In the first day of the week, Aisha and I still need to work on the first mural because we realised there were still a lot of small details need to be repaint. At this point I was really scared that we might be behind the schedule. Therefore on the second day of the week, while Aisha touched up the first mural, I slowly did the sketching and tapping for the second panel which is the submarine. We tried out best to stick the schedule that we had planned or else we might not finish the murals on time.
We spent the next two days mainly for the second panels. There was a day that we painted for 4 hours straight without taking any break, and it wasn’t ideally to do that. Because when moving to the fourth hour of painting, you will be tired or not in the right mind to continue painting and you start to find all the mistake on the mural. It was a valuable lesson for us, so we always need to remember to take a break in between. With the second mural, things started to go smoother because we already had the experience with the first mural. By the end of that week Saturday, we finished 70% of the mural.
On Sunday, we had made a mistake since we decided to work separately on two different mural. Aisha continued with the second mural, while I started painting the third panels. It was a mistake because we were exhausted painting two different murals, but it think we had to make that decision because the 30% left of the second mural was not a two man job since all the had left were small details and lines. The third mural seems like a simple panel but turns out it has a lot of things to be drawn and painted, so I need to start on the mural earlier than the schedule.
Another mistake on the day was the shadow of the submarine. We made the mistake when designing the mural because on digital drawing all you need to do is to decreased the opacity of the same shape and place it at the back of the figure but on mural, you need to mix a whole different colour coded for it. We managed to put it off and I think it looks so much better with the shadow
