Paper craft
Week 9
Designing paper craft toy
Apart from the mural project, we have a paper craft toy project. The idea is for the patients who are waiting for the number at the waiting area especially for the younger kids. They want to have a paper craft activity that can occupy the young patient time.
They suggested that we can create the craft of an ambulance car or something related to the hospital. However, we think that it might be more interesting if we bring the characters that we have design on the mural to the craft.
The idea is to create a board game like this ->

We were thinking, the board game might be too difficult for the younger kids, so we came up with other version (on the left side) of just the character.

Designing the toy was something new to us, so we were not so familiar with how the layout works. We needed to look up on the internet for the reference and see how to design the layout.
After pitching the idea, they like the idea and how we incorporate the characters to the design. However, they can only print one version of it, on one paper either a3 or a4 size. In addition, they were worried about the safety of the younger kids since some of the details are quite small (they might put inside their mouth or nose). As the result, this design was not suitable and we needed to come up with another draft. One of the staff suggested that we should have the submarine design in the craft layout, which I think it’s a good idea.

The idea is to create the submarine as a box, so that the characters can be put inside the submarine. We tried to keep the layout of all the figures in one piece so that it’s safer for the kids. We were not so familiar with product design, so we had a lot of difficulty while editing the design on Illustrator or contacting the vendor
