Week 4
mural painting
In the fourth week, we planned to work with the first mural. We had a briefing about all the storage space, cleaning area and the safety brief on the first day of the week.
Day 1 & 2
Sketching and taping
The first two days, we focused on doing the stencil, sketching and tapping the wall. Drawing on the larger scale was so much harder than when we did the design digitally. Therefore, planning on an exact size or ratio is really important. It took us a while to visualise and sketch the design on the wall because all the details were suddenly become so much bigger.
Taping up to separate different parts had made the progress faster and easier since we did not need so much time refine the line or the details.

Working hour
One I think I enjoy the most is the working hour. The working hour is a bit weird but it fits for us. The reason for this working hours is because our murals are located at the public area.
Day 2,4,5
Finishing
n the next three days, we focused on painting. It’s been a while since the last time we did we mural so the first day was like a day to revise all the technique or skill. Painting on the mural is definitely different from painting on a canvas because it is so much bigger. We forgot that the wall paint always need to be stirred well, always need to have more than 2 layers or always paint the top first and the bottom later because the paint is easily spilled.

Even though it’s only four or six hour shift, it can be very tiring. Because not only you need to stand to the long hour but also you need to pay attention to your brush, to composition, the shape and the line of the mural.
We slowly get used to the pace and finishing the first mural. It was fun but hard at the same time since we need to do a lot of layering and painted the same thing over and over again. However, it was very exciting to see to painting come together and I’m glad that we decided to change to the background colour of the mural. We finished 90% of the mural by the end of the week, only left with a bit of touching up
